What is NAD+?
NAD+ stands for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide. Unlike the other compounds in the SENEX range, NAD+ is not a peptide but a coenzyme – a molecule found in all living cells and involved in a variety of enzymatic reactions.
Its central role lies in redox metabolism: NAD+ and its reduced form NADH form a pair that transfers electrons and is thus involved in cellular energy production. Furthermore, NAD+ serves as a substrate for enzyme families such as sirtuins and PARPs.
State of Research
It is well documented that NAD+ concentration in tissues decreases with age. From this observation, NAD+ has become an integral part of longevity research – connections with mitochondrial function and DNA repair mechanisms, among others, are being investigated.
However, this does not explicitly answer what practical consequences can be derived from the aging process. A large part of the data comes from cell culture and animal models. There is no approved NAD+-based drug; there is no officially reviewed application and no reviewed dosage.
